Rivers United Team Bus involved in Auto Crash

The Contingent of players & Team managers of Rivers United Fc, who were returning from an abandoned Fedration Cup Quarter Final match against Enyimba at Ibadan, got involved in an automobile accident. The accident which occurred at around 8pm around the axis of the East West Road Ndele, Rivers State.
According to media officer of the side Sammy Wejinya he said Seventeen members of the contingent were treated on Thursday night after the accident.
Four members of the Rivers United team (three players and one official) have since been admitted at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Port Harcourt as a result of serious injuries they sustained after the auto crash.



The affected players are midfielder, Yusuf Jaiyeola, goalkeeper, Sope Hameed and club captain Festus Austin.
The Rivers United doctor, Chukwuemeka Agi explained that the situation with the admitted official and players ‘is serious’.
“Yusuf’s situation is the most serious as he suffered a deep cut in the Achilles tendon which occasioned serious bleeding.
“Sope has a laceration while Austin suffered a very serious knee injury.
“For the others who were not admitted, we still have not given them the all clear as they are still being assessed.
This occurred after the team abandoned their match with 7 times NPFL champion @enyimbafc after a controversial penalty was awarded against the South South based side.
The Media Officer Mr Sammy Wejinya further said that Rivers United have written to the League Management Company (LMC) to postpone its league game against Ikorodu United.
Rivers United is billed to face Ikorodu United in an NPFL clash on Sunday, July 30 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.
